Caravan Industry Association of Australia in conjunction with state caravanning associations conduct pre-show compliance inspections looking at amongst other things Australian Design Rules (ADRs). To date this year, we have opened 623 inspection files across 143 individual RV manufacturers and importers.
During recent inspections there has been several ADRs which we would like to see an improved understanding around, and in particular for those businesses outside of RVMAP. It is not surprising that the education and regular oversight that RVMAP businesses receive sees less than half the compliance issues identified on RVMAP product than on a product manufactured or imported from businesses from outside of the program.
Whether providing products under the MVSA or the RVSA, the legal requirements relating to ADRs are expected to be met on all recreational products produced and displayed.
To assist in improving compliance, industry businesses should remind themselves of what ADRs are applicable to their business through the ADR compliance tool for towables and motorised vehicles.
A summary of the main ADRs for which we are seeing the need for improved understanding are provided in the buttons below.
