Get prepared for ROVER Release 10

14 October 2025

ROVER will be unavailable from 3pm to 10.30pm AEDT on Tuesday 21 October 2025 while changes to the portal (ROVER Release 10) are deployed.

Vehicles can be submitted to the Register of Approved Vehicles (RAV) during this time, however, they will not be processed until ROVER goes live. Lists of approvals and the RAV Public Search will remain available throughout the outage period.

What will change in ROVER Release 10?

Some of the changes being deployed in ROVER include:

  • Microsoft Authenticator app: When you sign into ROVER, you will need to use the Microsoft Authenticator app to verify your details.
  • Virus scanning: When you upload a file in ROVER, your document will be scanned for viruses. You will be alerted if a virus is detected and prompted to upload a new file.
  • Model reports for SEVs and Used Two- & Three-wheeled vehicles: You will only add one build date range on a vehicle specification page when applying for a model report approval for a Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicle (SEV) or Used Two- & Three-wheeled vehicles.
  • Trailer VIN: When applying to import a trailer via the concessional pathway, you will be able to request a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) as part of your application.
  • Importing a special purpose vehicle: You will need to provide the vehicle’s gross vehicle mass when applying to import a special purpose vehicle via the concessional pathway. More information about these changes can be found HERE.

How to access your account

The SMS-based multi-factor authentication method will be replaced to strengthen security against phishing and SIM-swap fraud, which will help ensure ROVER accounts remain secure.

When signing into ROVER for the first time after this release, the Microsoft Authenticator app must be set up as the multi-factor authentication method.

This guide in setting up the Microsoft Authenticator app as your new multi-factor authentication method includes step-by -step instructions for existing ROVER users. The app can be downloaded for free on a compatible device from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
